Professor of Scandinavian and Finnish history at the Ernst-Moritz-Arndt University in Greifswald. Has published extensively on the Nordic Kalmar Union and the Reformation, but also works with early modern and modern history of northern Europe and the Baltic region. Editor of two publication series. Currently completing the Cambridge History of Scandinavia (1520-1870) together with Professor Erkki Kouri (Helsinki).
