Comment on Pussy Riot: Reflections on Receptions

It is important in this connection to mention the activities of Voina (The War), a Russian street-art group known for their provocative works of performance art. Pussy Riot members Nadezda Tolokonnikova and Ekaterina Samutsevich were members of the group. Tolokonnikova also took an active part in the most famous performance of Voina entitled Fuck for the Heir Puppy Bear!, that was staged in Moscow’s Timiryazev State Museum of Biology on 29 February 2008, the day before the election of President Dmitrii Medvedev. Five couples had public sex and Tolokonnikova, while participating in it, was nine months pregnant.
